Monastery of El Escorial

Our guided tour of the Monastery of El Escorial will take you through its Basilica, Palace, Pantheons, Chapter Halls, Library, and we will learn about the king Philip II and his time.


Visit time: 5 hours (since we leave until we return to Madrid)

El Escorial was the political center of the empire of Philip II. He founded a monastery with a great basilica, to be a "palace for God", but also a residence for himself and a beautiful library, as well as his tomb, and that of his parents, Charles I and Isabella of Portugal, and their families and successors.



Escorial Monastery opening hours:

Winter (October to March): Weekdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 to 18:00
Summer (April to September): Weekdays, Sundays and public holidays from 10:00 to 20:00
(Tickets´sale closes one hour earlier)

Closed on Mondays
