Visiting Avila
Our tour begins with a picture-stop, to admire from the distance the city, surrounded by it´s impressive wall. This will be followed by a walk through the old town, to see its main monuments and learn about its history, while enjoying its medieval atmosphere.
Length of the tour: 5 hours (half day), or 8 hours (full day) since we leave until we return to Madrid.
Avila is characterized by a complete medieval wall. Its medieval old town, in excellent condition, was declared a World Heritage Site in 1985.
During our walking tour, we will see the church of San Vicente, built outside of the walls, the city ramparts and some of the monumental gates (of San Vicente, the Alcazar), St. Peter's Square with its Romanesque church and the monument to Santa Teresa. And once inside the walled city, we´ll visit the church of Santa Teresa and see her relics, as well as many beautiful palaces from the XVth and XVIth centuries, the Guzmanes tower, near the monument to St. John of the Cross, the church of San Juan (where Santa Teresa was baptized), the Victory Square (Plaza Mayor) and the street of the Catholic Kings to finally reach the impressive Cathedral, built in the XIIIth and XVth centuries, that looks like a fortress. After the visit, return to Madrid.
This tour can be of 5 hours (since we leave until we return to Madrid) or 8 hours (since we leave until we return to Madrid). The 8 hours tour allows you to have lunch in Avila.
Bus transportation and entrance fees to monuments are not included in the price of the tour, the monuments to visit will be the choice of the customer.
